After a sub-par week of training I started to wonder if doing two Ironman's in only 5 weeks was do-able. My track workout on Tuesday was awful and my run Thursday wasn't much different. I ran one mile repeat in just under six minutes and the other two intervals that followed were at a snails pace (6:18 and a 6:28). I simply had zero turnover and zero fire power in the legs. On the plus side, my swimming would return to form this week as I started to knock the same, if not faster times than pre IM Lake Placid. I also made it out on the bike a couple times this week, but the tides didn't particularly change until yesterday.
I had a 4:30 ride on the schedule followed up with a short transition run. Up until yesterday the longest I had spent at one time in the saddle since IMLP was a wimpy 2 hours. Needless to say, I was skeptical after my mediocre runs this week on how the legs would feel towards the end of my ride. I knew that I had to feel good the entire workout yesterday or I might as well throw in the towel for Louisville. I'm at a point right now where I don't want to do an Ironman just to say I've done another. At no disrespect, but I could seriously care less about the horse shoe medal. Been there, done that. I had one goal this year and one goal only. Kona. It's time to suck it up and get er done.
So how did the ride go? Well to be honest, the ride went FANTASTIC. The temperature approached 90 degrees yesterday so it was perfect training weather for IM-LOU. I kept waiting for my legs to get slow and sluggish, but it never happened. Actually as the day progressed, my legs felt better and better. This was exactly the outcome I was looking for. With another two solid taper weeks I plan to be ready and give it my all (once again).
I have my last long swim planned for today followed up by an afternoon run in what will be another 90 degree day. Now all I need is for my running legs to return and I'll be all set. I also fly out to San Diego tomorrow and am looking forward to another taper, a couple relaxing swims in the pacific followed by a leisurely bike ride up and down the Pacific Coast Highway. Oh yeah...and hopefully a stop at Noodles!
Po'alua...Tuesday.

I know you are going to SD and there are so many great things to eat there, too bad you'll be tapering and counting calories. Fins, Rubio, In n out, fatburger, adabiertos, sombreros ...oh these are reasons I only go home during the holidays.
See ya in Louisville.
Good Luck on next Ironman. You sound prepared and ready!
